Keeping Your Awning Clean and Pristine

Whether you use it to shield your house guests from the sun outside or invite prospective customers into your budding business, your custom awning is an inseparable part of your residential or commercial property. And just like any other important fixture in your building, your awning requires its fair share of attention and cleaning. But you can’t necessarily just hop up there and go to town with your vacuum now can you? Indeed, your awning calls for specialized attention. So where is one to start?

Fortunately enough, there are quite a few ways to ensure your awning remains in immaculate shape. All it takes is a little time, a routine schedule, and simple cleaning supplies! Read on for an abridged rundown of what you can expect when looking to clean off your property’s awnings!

The debris your awning protects you from doesn’t simply disappear. And while they may remain out of sight and out of mind, the branches, dirt, and cobwebs that remain on your awning or canopy can actually cause grime and stains to set in if they aren’t promptly removed. Fortunately, a simple routine brushing once a week can serve as the perfect check to this problem!

Be sure to use a soft bristle brush with an extendable handle to avoid damaging your awning and exerting extra stretching to reach those trouble spots. See if you can spot yourself an RV awning brush as these can deliver the reach and soft touch your canopy needs.

Much like flossing exists as the perfect complement to brushing to really flush out the bacteria in your teeth, a simple hosing down of your awning can help knock down all of the debris your brushing missed! Smaller and harder to reach particles can actually be rubbed deeper into your awning if you simply brush so be sure to follow up every brushing with a simple rinse down that will dislodge those peskier pieces of debris.

To some, the news that their awning calls for regular care can be a bit of a shock. More often than not, we’ve seen neglected awnings and canopies whose surfaces are absolutely caked with branches, stains, grime, and just about every other natural debris you can point a finger at. Of course, with these more severe cases, your average brush and rinse won’t do! You’re going to need a deeper clean to really wipe off those stains and revert that awning to its former glory. That’s where a deep wash can save the day!

Luckily enough, the process is rather easy. Start by mixing a batch of regular water in a bucket with a mild dish soap of your choice. Using your hose, wet your awning and then begin gently scrubbing the awning down with your dishwater solution. Once you’re confident you’ve reached every nook and cranny, rinse down the awning one last time and you’re bound to be blown away by just how clean that previously rancid fixture now looks! As a final precaution, let your awning dry completely before folding it away so mold and mildew aren’t given a chance to grow.

More often than not, your awning is going to be at the forefront of your store or in plain sight in your yard as you host guests and customers. The last thing any property owner wants is for the face of their building to invite any thoughts other than those of cleanliness and sanitation. Be sure to keep these cleaning processes we mentioned above and always leave your property looking its absolute best!

How Winter Enclosures Add Value to Your Business

A winter enclosure, otherwise known as a vestibule, is placed at the door of an establishment and serves as a barrier between the indoors and outdoors. In the beginning

Signs have been around since the start of humanity. As long ago as 3,000 B.C., the first advertising sign was created. With bricks and stones as their only canvass, early weapon creators used these materials to advertise their items by drawing small pictures. As they continued to evolve, stone and brick were out and in came clay. Using clay, allowed for business owners of the time period to create more elaborate displays, making for a competitive spirit throughout communities.

In ancient Egypt and Syria, rugs and blankets were used outside of homes and shops to keep the intense heat out. This is representative of how they hold both an aesthetic and utilitarian function. Then we get into its more modern applications, which is worth exploring further. In this post, we’ll get a little more into the evolution of awnings in contemporary society!

The Types of Awnings Have Grown

When you’re looking to invest in an awning, you have a decision to make regarding the material you want one to be made out of. The first is fabric, one of the oldest of its kind. While there have been some updates made to its structure, they are still typically made from polyester, acrylic, cotton canvas, or vinyl-coated canvas. While this is usually the least expensive option, it may also require more maintenance.

Now we go from the most common to the most popular option, and that is metal awnings. These are very popular with home and business owners due to how they are painted using a baked-on enamel. It employs the same key benefits of fabric awnings while delivering a higher level of durability!

Lastly, there are retractable awnings. Much like a convertible with a folding roof, this option offers you the convenience of extracting or retracting as needed. While older styles required the use of a hand crank to operate, more and more models as of late are the automatically retracting awnings. In fact, there is some that function using a smartphone!

The Look Has Changed

Rather than simply keeping the temperature under control, awnings now provide a strong level of comfort for customers inside of areas like stores and restaurants. For example, beyond offering shade, motorized retractable awnings are also seen as a sign of a home or business’s intrinsic value.

All that being said, awnings come in many shapes, types, and sizes, so it’s the one that serves the best in terms of appearance and functionality. How to Create Memorable Commercial Signs

In today’s online-centric world, more and more companies are trying to find ways to solicit new customers through the use of online and mobile marketing and advertising. However, if you really want to grab people’s attention, perhaps the best way to do this is with a strong commercial sign!

Commercial signs are great way to grab attentionMany businesses out there find that in-store signage and graphics are highly effective. In fact, according to this infographic by Signage, 17% of Best Buy’s walk-in customers visited their business simply because they spotted the sign and felt the urge to make an unplanned visit.

You can tell from this statistic alone how people strongly link a company’s sign to their overall brand and marketing strategy. I’m sure many of our readers have made the decision to stop at a store and make a purchase for this very same reason.

In this post, we will go over some of the important principles you should keep in mind when designing a commercial sign. An attractive, creative sign can really help your business stand apart from the rest of the competition. Customer loyalty is crucial for company growth, and it all begins by creating a strong sign.

Consider the Functionality

The first thing you need to do is prioritize the function you want your sign to serve. A sign that appears on the outside of your business can draw the attention of potential customers and set it apart from the rest of the block. An interior sign will help people locate specific products and can lead to impulse purchases if placed correctly. In a way, both of these scenarios link a business to its customers.

Establish the Right Color and Contrast

We have talked before in previous blog posts how crucial it is to think about the color and contrast when designing a sign. Color can convey a brand’s identity, while contrast helps determine its readability, both of which are key factors. By striking the right tone between the two, you will have an engaging sign that causes reader retention.

You should also think about the longevity – is your sign going to look good a year from now? If you have an exterior sign, people are going to see it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Find ways to reinforce your brand through your sign’s color and contrast so its effects are constant.

Font and Size Matters

We have also previously discussed the importance of your sign’s typography. The font you decide upon plays a huge role in how your company is perceived. But you also want to debate the size of the font itself. The larger the text is, the easier it will be to read. This is essential if you plan on displaying your sign at a great distance.

Say for example you are at a conference and you have a stand set up with a banner or poster. Is that person who is standing 100 feet away going to be able to legibly read your sign and be drawn towards it? The typeface also plays into the design process. While that font you found online may seem perfect at first glance, there may be difficulty understanding what your sign says at greater distances.

You want to weigh in all the functions, the benefits, and other aspects. After all, signs are seen as a cost-effective way for businesses with limited marketing funds to draw attention to their products and services. By taking all of these components into consideration, you will be able to create a compelling commercial sign that has a significant influence on customers!

2 Questions to Ask Yourself About Your Next Sign’s Font Height

We can go on and on about why signage is perfect for drawing in business and increasing your brand’s presence, but what goes into creating an eye grabbing sign? We’ve already discussed the importance of color contrast and font selection and so naturally up next on the chopping block is font size, otherwise known as font “height”.

Picking the right font height hinges on more than simply picking the largest font for the sake of visibility. In fact, there are two important questions you need to answer before you begin fiddling with your sign’s copy.

How Far Away From the Sign Will Your Target Audience Be?

the distance between the sign and its audience Depending on the location of the sign, your reader might not be able to get too close to your text. So how far away do you expect your reader to be and how does that number impact your font size? A generally accepted rule is to increase your font size by an inch for every 10 feet you expect your reader to be from your sign. So if you want your banner or sign to be visible on the sidewalk from 10 feet away, your font should measure at least 100 inches in size.

Knowing where you’d ideally like your audience to notice the sign can prove helpful as well! If you’re interested in drawing attention on the sidewalk or want to pull in cars from the freeway, that has to be factored into your decision.

How Long Do You Want Your Audience to Read?consider the time it takes to read a sign

The next question you want to ask yourself is how long your reader will have to actually process the information included on your sign. According to Health Guidance, the average adult reads about 250 words per minute, coming to about 4 words a second.

Again, the question of where your sign is placed comes into play. If you want to garner the attention of a person strolling across the street, you probably have some more wiggle room to stuff more information in smaller text. Conversely, a person barreling down the freeway at 70 miles an hour isn’t going to have more than a couple of seconds to spare on your sign. When reaching for an audience like that, it may be best to keep it short and use large text that can be seen from far away.

You’ve probably already noticed that both of these questions, while important, hinge on where you plan on placing your sign. When looking to draw in the greatest potential crowd, location is everything. Take a close look at your business and determine what kind of audience you want to attract and where that audience is most likely to look. After that, keep what we’ve been posting about color, font, and text, in mind and you’re sure to create the perfect accompaniment to your store front!
